ciaoSince its inception, CIAO has made it a priority to assist new Calls to the Bar. In this vein, we have established a mentorship program which partners them with experienced members. We have also set up and funded numerous scholarships and awards at various faculties of law across the Province.

CIAO is proud of its longstanding contributions to public legal education. For years, members of CIAO have hosted numerous public legal seminars, have appeared on Italian media programs, and have made innumerable written submissions to all levels of governments. This is an ongoing priority.

criminal law assThe Criminal Lawyers’ Association (CLA) is one of the largest specialty legal organizations in Canada, with more than 1,000 members. We are a voice for criminal justice and civil liberties in Canada.

Our advice and perspective is sought by all levels of government and the judiciary on issues relating to legislation and the administration of criminal justice.

We also assist our members in every aspect of the practice of criminal litigation. The Association is governed by an executive and board of directors elected by the membership.

yorkregionThe York Region Law Association is a community focused professional organization of lawyers. Using funds derived from membership fees and various grants, it operates and maintains the Law Association and Library, which is located at the Newmarket Courthouse.

The Association maintains standing committees which are mandated to regularly address concerns specific to the practice of law within the Region and which committees are in regular communication with the different levels of court as well as other offices and organizations. The YRLA also organizes continuing legal education sessions and regular social functions, as well as informational and educational meetings
